What is driving instructor insurance?

This is specialist insurance for driving instructors, to cover the unique risks associated with teaching inexperienced drivers in a car with dual controls. We can provide tailored insurance solutions for both approved driving instructors (ADIs) and potential driving instructors (PDIs). We can also help you if you work for a driving school, or if you provide training as part of a commercial fleet.

Why driving instructors need insurance?

It is illegal to drive without car insurance but teaching someone to drive creates a couple of insurance complications.

  • You will be allowing an inexperienced driver to operate your vehicle, and that driver is very unlikely to have their own insurance.
  • Your car will have dual controls, which may make potential repairs more difficult.
