Why gas engineers need insurance?

Your customers trust you to keep their heating systems working, and to ensure their homes and businesses stay Gas Safe. But if anything goes wrong in your line of work, the results can be disastrous and lead to:

  • Gas leaks
  • Fires
  • Explosions

This is why gas engineers need insurance. You and your employees are trained professionals. But accidents happen. If they do, then without insurance, you could be personally liable for any costs. But with insurance, you, your employees, and your customers will be covered for any losses, damages, or injuries that may occur as a result of your work.

What does gas engineer insurance cover?

  • Public liability insurance – for any compensation or legal fees should your customers sustain any injury or property damage as a result of your work.
  • Employer’s liability insurance – a legally required insurance to hold if you have employees, to cover illness or injury while working with you.
  • Professional indemnity insurance – for compensation or legal fees to cover claims of damages caused by negligence, errors or mistakes.
  • Cover for tools and equipment, including goods in transit cover – to cover your equipment when on a job or travelling between jobs.

Do gas engineers need public liability insurance?

Public liability insurance will cover any legal fees, along with any compensation that may be due, should you or your employees cause any accidents or injuries while carrying out your work. This could range from injuries or property damage as a result of a gas leak, to clients accidentally tripping over your equipment while you work.

There is no legal requirement for gas engineers to get public liability insurance. But given the risks associated with your work, this is one form of cover you should not go without. Plus, if you want to work with larger organisation, they may make it a contractual requirement to have public liability insurance in place.
