CSP Members PLI Insurance

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) provide Professional & Public Liability Insurance (PLI) for all eligible members resident in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands or Isle of Man practising within the Scope of Physiotherapy as part of membership benefits.

Limits Insured

Medical Professional Liability Insurance

£7.5million any one claim with an overall aggregate of £10million (including costs and expenses) for all claims per member in any one period of insurance.

Public and Products Liability Insurance

£10million any one occurance and in aggregate for Products Liability claims under the policy.

Important Notes and Options

  • Members may increase the standard limit insured from £7.5 million to £10 million for Medical professional Liability claims by separate application. Please contact James Hallam on 01245 321185 or go to https://jameshallam.co.uk/promed/physiotherapy-cover/ for more information.
  • Members must be HCPC registered and ordinarily resident in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Falkland Islands
  • Members are insured whilst temporarily working anywhere in the world for up to a maximum of 180 days in any 12 month period. Restrictions apply for any work in USA, Canada and Australia
  • No cover provided for the treatment of certain Professional Footballers, or acupuncture when used for Fertility Treatments
  • Injection Therapy Exclusion

Top-Up Insurance

Members may increase their own personal level of cover to £10 million any one claim for an annual premium of £371.24 inclusive of insurance tax and MPLC handling fee.

Business Liability Insurance

The CSP’s PLI scheme is designed for the benefit of individual members rather than corporate businesses. Clinics trading as a Partnership or Private Limited Company should assess their liability insurance needs and purchase separate cover where appropriate. Private Practice Insurance

Members operating private clinics can insure the practice assets and revenues under a comprehensive package of covers which includes also Employers Liability, Public Liability, and a range of valuable Legal Expenses Insurance.

Professional Liability Insurance for ACPAT Members

As a member of The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT) you can benefit from our bespoke professional liability insurance scheme, designed specifically for physiotherapists in animal therapy.

This cover provides Medical and Professional Liability Insurance to protect members against claims for wrongful advice or treatments arising from your work as an animal physiotherapist. This cover does not include Public Liability Insurance, as this is provided separately as part of CSP membership insurance. Students (Cat B Members) must be under the supervision of a qualified member (Cat A) or Veterinary Surgeon.

The policy is underwritten by RSA and provides run off cover at no extra charge when members retire or cease to practice.

Options include Employers Liability insurance in respect of students or employees in your care and corporate entity cover where services are delivered through a Partnership or Private Limited Company.

Important Notes

  • This scheme is only available where both ACPAT and CSP membership is held at the same time
  • Category A members are insured whilst teaching / training Category B student members (However it is advisable to select the Employers Liability option to cover liabilities resulting from injuries to students in members care)
  • The limit on Bloodstock claims is £500,000 in any period of insurance (definition of Bloodstock available on request
  • Separate rates available on request for corporate entities (e.g. partnerships or private limited companies)
  • Separate terms are available for non ACPAT members, or anyone practicing outside the scope of animal Physiotherapy

Non Animal Therapy Activities (such as Human Physiotherapy and other Complementary Therapies)

Legal Defence Cover for MACP Members

The Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists provide Criminal Prosecution Legal Defence cover as a benefit of membership. A Summary of Cover is available as a download from this page.

  • Legal defence fees up to £100,000
  • Covers prosecutions brought against members in the United Kingdom (excluding prosecutions brought in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man)
